In 1987, Andy Warhol completed this watch design created exclusively for Movado. This museum- quality piece is one of his last works and the very first watch he designed.This example bears the number 87 in a limited edition of 250 pieces.Andy Warhol (1927-1987)The leader of the Pop Art Movement, Andy Warhol created art about time. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, in 1927 to immigrant parents, Warhol grew up during the Depression and became one of the 20th Century's most influential artists, achieving fame and wealth along the way. His art simultaneously celebrated, satirized and critiqued postwar American culture. Warhol and his art serve as a natural catalyst for thoughtful investigation of 40 years of social and cultural change. Warhol himself became a publifigure, his shock white hair and blank expression internationally recognized as symbols of modern art.Warhol's creativity and openness attracted all types of people from the strange to the unusual, including Valerie Solanas, a paranoid would-be playwright and feminist activist who shot him in his studio in June 1968 with a 32 caliber pistol. Warhol was wounded and from then on slowed his creative output to a trickle and became much more cautious.
