C. Four-body, ?bassine et filets?, spring-loaded back engraved with King Batory on a horse, floral borders, reeded band, gold hinged cuvette. D. White enamel, Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, secured by two small screws. Blued steel Breguet hands. M. 40 mm. (18???), Cal. 4 (Patek classification), frosted gilt, 15 jewels, lateral counterpoised lever escapement with visible ruby pallet stones, uncut bimetallic balance with flat balance spring. Signed on the cuvette and on movement. Diam. 45 mm

Notes

King Stefan Batory (1576-1586). He was the Prince of Transylvania. In 1576 he was elected King of Poland. He renounced his judicial powers over the gentry. Courts of Appeal replaced the royal courts, with the judges being elected by noblemen. He was engaged in wars with Ruusia. In 1586 he died of rumored poisoning.
