C.Outer: double-body, the back engraved with military trophies, pierced bezels florally engraved. Inner: double-body, bassine, the back engraved with scrolling foliage and flowers, pierced band engraved with scrolling. D. White enamel with radial Islamic numerals. Blued steel "beetle and poker" hands. M. 45 mm., gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, brass three-arm balance, gilt brass cock pierced and engraved with scrolling foliage. Striking on a bel, strike-silent selection lever on the bezel. Gilt brass dust cap.Signed on the dial, the dust cap and the back plate.Diam. 61 mm.

Daniel de Saint Leu (active 1753-1797)Of Genevan origin, he worked in Geneva and London. Watchmaker to the Queen in 1765, Saint Leu was renowned for very fine enameled and varicolored gold clockwatches set with diamonds and precious stones, and repeating watches for the Turkish and Islamic markets.
