Windy Entrance in the BosphorUnsigned, Geneva, no. 762, made for the Islamic market circa 1840.Very fine 18K gold and painted on enamel scalloped-edge snuff box.
Two-body, the center of the cover finely painted on enamel with an harbor scene with windy weather, ships and boats fighting against the wind, a tower to the right, a garrison to the left at the background, whole against sunset behind mountains, scalloped frame, border in champlevé polychrome enamel with flowers and foliage, scalloped side panels with alternating panels of green champlevé enamel forming stylized flowers and painted on rose enamel military and musical trophies, bottom centered bpainted on enamel musical trophies with a music score, scalloped frame, outer with champlevé green enamel with flowers and foliage, outermost painted on rose enamel garlands of flowers, 7-link slightly extending hinge. Punched with later French import mark and engraved with a number. Dim. 77 x 53 mm.
