C. Four-body, ?bassine et filets? with coin edge, the back engraved with the Virgin under the Cross, a sword in her chest, foliate border, gold hinged cuvette. D. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, secured by two small screws. Blued steel Breguet hands. M. 29 mm. (13???), Cal. 4 (Patek classification), frosted gilt, hanging barrel, cylinder escapement, three-arm gilt balance with flat balance spring. Signed on case and movement. Diam. 33 mm.

The wounded Virgin was a symbol of Poland?s situation after the partition and the 1830 insurrection. Many women wore watches with this image, as reminders of their sons or husbands who had died in the fight for independence.
