The Homecoming of Odysseus Cha. Cabrier, London, No. 4290, probably produced in Friedberg for the Dutch market, circa 1765. Fine 20K gold diamond-set triple-cased repoussé half quarter-repeating watch.
C. Outer: protective, gilt brass, leather covered with gilt studs. Middle: double-body, pierced for sound and repoussé with a scene depicting Odysseus being reunited with his wife after twenty years of traveling. Inner: "bassine" pierced and engraved with foliage, lion's mask at 6 o'clock, diamond-set thumb piece. D. Gold, radial Roman numerals separated by rose-cut diamonds, outer Arabic minutes, Dutch-type arches above the numerals. Diamond-set hands. M. 32 mm., hinged, gilt brass, full platewith column pillars, fusee with chain, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass English style cock pierced and engraved with foliage and mask, repeating on bell by depressing the pendant, gilt dust-cap.Signed on the dial, back plate and dust-cap.Diam. 56 mm.
