Attributed to Abraham Chapuis & Barrel, Geneva, circa 1810. Very fine and early large 18K gold musical quarter-repeating watch.

C. Four-body, "Empire", engine-turned back with spinning sunburst pattern, small polished cartouche at the lower part, reeded band, gilt hinged cuvette with winding apertures. D. Gold, with raised and polished Breguet hour chapter on matted ring, outer minute track, center engraved with a young man distracted from his fishing by a young lady. Blued steel "lozenge" hands. M. 53 mm. (23'''), gilt and engraved, jeweled cylinder escapement, three-arm gold balance with flat balance spring, pinned cyinder musical movement driven from fixed barrel with ten double vibrating teeth.Diam. 60 mm.

Musical watches with pinned cylinders were the first type of musical watch and are rarer than the later, "sur plateau" ones. We have seen an identical watch wich is signed and dated on the musical cylinder - Chapuis & Barrel, 1812.
