C. Outer: double body, polished. Inner: double body bassine with deep back part, polished, swivel pendant, loose ring.D. Silver champlevé with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring, center with pierced cartouche and aperture for date. Blued steel "poker and beetle" hands. M. 41 mm., hinged gilt brass full plate with Egyptian pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring with 1.5 coils, gilt brass English cock with streamers pierced and engraved with a shell and foliage.Signed on the dial and back plate.Diam. 55 mm.

Notes

Daniel Quare was one of the best makers of his time. It is interesting that some of the best continental makers made use of Quare's name to "improve" their watches. In the records of London's Clockmakers' Company for the year 1703, one can read: "The Master and Mr. [Daniel] Quare produced letters from Patrick Cadell of Amsterdam, stating that Cabriere, Lambe, and others, at Amsterdam, had set the names of Tompion, Windmills and Quare on their work, and sold it for English.
