Unsigned, French, circa 1880. Very fine gilt brass and silver eight day-going grande et petite sonnerie, quarter-repeating carriage clock with alarm.

Gilt bronze, glazed on four sides and top, four corner columns inlaid with silver, very finely engraved with repeated oval pattern with fleur de lis, silver inlaid base with canted corners with repeated acanthus leaf pattern, corners engraved with dragons, top en suite, fluted handle. D. Circular gilt ring with radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, center inlaid with silver engraved with elaborate rosette, Arabic alarm chapter below, frosted silver inlaid dial plate, very fine mattgilt frame. Blued steel "distaff" hands. M. Brass, going barrels, gilt brass platform escapement with lateral lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, striking, repeating and alarm on two gongs with gilt brass button on the top for repeating, lever for changing from petite to grande sonnerie in the base.Dim. 18 x 9 x 8 cm., including the handle.
