The Combat of the Eagle and the Snake Tort A Paris, end of the 18th century. Very fine marble and gilt bronze hour- and half hour-striking, eight day-going pendule à pyramide.
C.Black rectangular marble base on four gilt bronze feet, four gilt bronze posts at each corner, red and white marble pedestal on white marble surbase set in ormolu frame, white marble molded cornice forming a base for a white marble pyramid whose front is decorated with ormolu armor and arms, ormolu lion's heads at each side with gilt bronze balls hanging from two links, corona with an eagle fighting a snake, ormolu decoration.D. White enamel, Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions with fifteen-minute Arabic markers, winding aperture. Elaborate gilt "arrowhead" hands. M. 115 mm., circular, brass, going barrels, anchor escapement, silk suspension, short pendulum with brass bob, striking on a bell with count wheel set on the back plate.Signed on the dial.Dim. Height 73 cm, base width 30 cm.
