The Tulip. Geneva, circa 1810. Fine and rare 18K gold and painted on enamel miniature perfume flask designed as a tulip.

C. Three-body, two spring-loaded petals very realistically painted on enamel, hinged to the base of the flower of translucent red enamel over flinqué, with green leaves on a gold stalk, threaded gold stem, suspended by four chains joined by a single ring.Opening the petals reveals a small glass vial for perfume.

Notes

Scent bottles of this form are very rare. Watches with similar cases are known (see Antiquorum April 14, 2002, lot 78). It is conceivable that the flask originated in a set with a tulip watch.
