Geneva, circa 1820. Exceptional gold and enamel, split pearl-set, paillon-decorated, rectangular snuff box having a superb grisaille painted on enamel historical scene.

Two-body, rectangular with canted corners, front lid centered with a finely painted on enamel scene with 18 figures,border with green paillons in white and black enamel cartouches and split pearls finished with black champlevé enamel, lid sides with green and gold paillons forming a floral pattern, the side panels with translucent green enamel over engine-turning, each centered with an elaborate paillon decoration representing cupid's instruments: a quiver, arrows and a love torch, the border matching the lid, the base centered with very elaborate paillon design with a Roman bust, flower vases and floral swags on en suite enamel, the border is as the lid.Punched with illegible mark inside the lid.Dim. 90 x 65 x 29 mm.
