Aimé Billon, La Chaux-de-Fonds, circa 1840. Very fine painted eight day going grande et petite sonnerie striking "neuchâteloise" cartel clock with alarm, date, and quarter repeating.
C. Lacquered in black, painted with flowers, rounded gilt top, glazed curved sides, front with glazed oval brass framed opening for viewing the action of the pendulum, hinged en suite bezel, curved feet, hinged back door, gilt curved feet, en suite molded detachable top with gilt walnut-shaped finial, molded bracket painted with a flower vase. D. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, inner 31-day ring, winding apertures at 5 and 7 o'clock. Blued steel hands with gilt flower tips set with diamond pastes. M. Rectangular brass, going barrels, pin-wheel escapement, steel rod/brass bob pendulum set with a diamond paste, spring suspension, rack striking on two gongs by two hammers, striking works set on the back plate, pull repeat by a cord protruding from the base alarm on a bell, lever for grande/petite/silence below the dial.Signed on the bezel locking knob.
