King James II Richard Baker, London, circa 1688, repoussé case circa 1740. Highly important and exceptionally fine 22K, diamond-set day and night watch of Royal provenance with painted on enamel miniature of James II.
C. Two-body, very finely repoussé with a scene depicting Penelope and a suitor in an assymetrical cartouche, bezel with repoussé scrolls.D. Gold, above a sector with aperture for enamel disc with moon and stars and gilt sun indicating the hours by pointing to champlevé Roman numerals on the circumference, inner quarter-hours, lower part applied with enameled portrait of King James II surmounted by a diamond-set gold crown and surrounded by an applied diamond-set silver frame.M. 38 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full plate, finely cut tulip pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, 3-arm steel balance, short balance spring with one and a quarter coils, single-footed cock very finely pierced and engraved with exotic birds and stylized foliage.Signed on dial and movement.Diam. 58 mm.
