Jacques Bruguier à Genève, 6, rue Bonivard,circa 1850.Very fine 18K gold and enamel, diamond-set singing bird box, in a later fitted box.

C. Two part rectangular with lobed corners, base engine-turned, front and side panels with foliage decoration in a geometrical pattern, the lid chased with foliage over a dark blue ground. Singing bird box cover decorated en suite and centred with a rose-cut diamond set bouquet of flowers. Pierced and engraved gilt brass grid. Multicoloured feathered bird with moving body, wings, tail, opening beak andturning head. Singing bird movement: Rectangular plates with turned pillars, fusee with chain,rectangular bellow, the bird with moving wings,tail, beak and turning head, controlled by a stackof 8 cams, gold engraved grill.Signature scratched on the movementDim. 95 x 53 x 30 mm.

Jacques BruguierThe son of the celebrated singing bird box maker Charles Abraham Bruguier. He also worked in Geneva, firstly at6, rue Bonivard, and later at 14, rue du Cendrier, just before taking over his father's workshop and becoming his successor, following his death in 1862.
