P. Joseph Stasinon à Tournay, circa 1700.Very fine and rare gilt brass Louis xiv oignon with date, enamel cock and pendulum.

C. Three body, oignon, with glazed back, the bezels chased with scroll decoration. D. Gold champleve with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring, the centre pierced and engraved with scrolls and cartouche for the signature, applied on a blued steel ground and with date aperture. Blued steel hands.M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with Egyptian pillars chased with decoration, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, fine cock set with a full size enamel plaque, painted with the portrait of a lady over a black ground in the manner of the Huaud brothers, a garnet set mock pendulum, fixed on the balance rim, oscillate within a semi-circular aperture, below the cock.Signed on the dial and back plate.Diam. 54 mm.

Notes

Pierre Joseph Stasinon, recorded as working in Gant and subsequently in Tournay in the early 18th century.Although signed with the name of a town that now forms part of the Belgium province of Hainaut, this watch can clearly be classed as an oignon. The intricacy and quality of the craftsmanship is exceptional, and the enamel plaque, which must be of Swiss origin, is notably well painted. Its original owner is unknown, but the highly individual style of decoration would indicate that it was a special commission.
