C. four body, 'bassine-étui', grisaille oval back painted with a cherub holding a horn of plenty, grisaille front painted with escutcheon supported by two cherubs on both sides, fruits and flowers vase at the top flanked by two doves, all centered by in profile portrait of a lady on red background within rose-cut diamond frame. Inside the back cover glazed compartment for a picture, scalloped bezels and band engraved with geometrical pattern, gold hinged cuvette with engine turned and engraved brder. D. silver with gold applied center and border in form of floral and foliate decoration, Roman numerals on circular lines ring, subsidiary seconds, 'Spade' blued steel hands. M. 15''' nickel plated, 3/4 plate, lateral lever escapement, three-arm gold balance, flat balance spring, 15 jewels, index regulator, pin-set.Dial, case and movement signed.Diam. 41 mm

The Spanish index regulator scale 'ADELANTO/ATRASO', featured in this watch is rarely found.Henri Grandjean, along with Constant Girard (later Girard-Perregaux), was one of the first to enter the South American Market. He was also, along with Ulysse Nardin, one of the first to establish marine chronometer manufacturing in Switzerland, an initiator of Neuchâtel Observatory, a winner of a first class medal at the 1851 London Universal Exhibition.
