Notes

This watch was commissioned by Movado for the Famous Artist Series in 1991, in a limited edition of 180 pieces. The case of the watch is platinum and creates the illusion of three different watches melting into one. Each dial is painted to appear as an abstraction of a different aspect of the earth, and each movement is mechanical and individual so that the watch can be set to three time zones.James RosenquistJames Rosenquist, born in 1933, is best known for his large-scale pop art paintings. His style was strongly influenced by his experiences as a billboard painter in New York, which led him to explore the relationship between advertising and art. His paintings use their grandiose scale to emphasize expanses of uniform space, illustrating Rosenquist's idea that 'nature becomes increasingly modified by man until the natural and artificial blend into each other.'
