Barraud, Cornhill, London No. 9591 (first series), made for the Chinese market, circa 1818.Very fine 18K gold and enamel pearl-set watch.
C. Three-body, Empire with fixed cuvette, band with engraved floral decoration over straight-line engine-turning, split-pearl set bezels pendant and bow, the back panel with fine flowers painted over red translucent enamel over sunburst engine-turning with borders in light blue opaque enamel. Spring-loaded back (with two springs) opened by a push-piece in the pendant, inside back cover stamped with 'prestige' hallmarks. D. Off-white enamel with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds. Gold 'spade' hads. M. 23???, full plate fire-gilded, cylinder escapement driven by a going barrel, cylindrical pillars, monometallic four-arm balance, balance and the steel escape wheel jeweled, both with ruby endstones, flat balance spring with regulator, gilded cock pierced and engraved with scrolled foliage.Signed on the dial and the movement.Diam. 59 mm.
