Notes

ZarfsA zarf is defined as a small, metal, cuplike holder, which is typically ornamented. They were particularly popular in the Ottoman Empire where they were used as coffee cup holders. Among the best examples of zarfs were those made in gold for the sultans, which were richly decorated, enameled and very often set with precious stones. The more ornate the zarf the more important its user.
