Jules Jürgensen, Copenhagen, No. 4, made in Switzerland by Alfred Jürgensen in 1865. Very fine 18K gold hunting cased keyless pocket watch in original wooden fitted box.

M. 42 mm (18 1/2???), nickel, Jürgensen calibre, 21 jewels, straight line calibrated lever escapement,cut-bimetallic compensation balance with Breguet balance spring, off-center regulator with Jürgensen patented scale, Jürgensen patented bow setting mechanism.Signed and numbered on dial, case and movement, movement also signed and numbered under the dial.Diam. 50 mm

Notes

When Alfred Jürgensen started his own business in 1865 he supplied all his watches to Jules Jürgensen. The signature was Jules Jürgensen, but a new numbering series was started. As stated in John Knudsen?s book about the Jürgensen?s dynasty, all Jürgensen watches with low serial numbers and stem winding were manufactured by Alfred Jürgensen for Jules Jürgensen. Jürgensen?s cost of this watch was 495 Francs, of which 254 went into manufacturing of the case. We thank Mr. Knudsen for his kind comments about this watch.
