Dent, Maker to the Queen, 33 Cockspur St., London, No. 27214, hallmarked 1871-72, ebauche attributed to Louis Audemars. Very fine and very rare small 18K gold, keyless, double-train, independent dead split-seconds watch with minute and 12-hour register.

C. Four-body, ?bassine et filets?, polished, gold hinged cuvette, gold activation button at 9. D. White enamel, small radial chapter to the left, to the right, the register driven from the independent train, central outer dead seconds divisions with five-seconds Arabic markers, subsidiary sunk seconds. Blued steel ?spade? hands. M. 42 mm (19???), frosted gilt 3/4-plate, Mairet tandem winding, 25 jewels in screwed chatons, lateral counterpoised lever escapement, cut-bimetallic compensation balance with Breguet balance spring, diamond endstone on the balance, jump seconds via flirt on the last independent train pinion gearing with escape wheel pinion.Signed on dial and movement.Diam. 48 mm.

Notes

The activation button works as follows: 1st push starts the independent train and both sweep seconds hands. 2nd push activates split seconds. 3rd push stops the independent train and the split seconds hands unite. The watch is superbly finished in typical Louis Audemars style. The split seconds mechanism has an unusual construction. Its wheel has ratchet teeth, which are acted upon by a click lever controlled by the main controlling (crown) wheel.
