Barraud, Cornhill, London No. 9110 (first series), made for the Chinese market, circa 1816. Very fine and rare, 18K gold and enamel pearl-set watch.
C. Three-body, ?Empire? with fixed cuvette, reeded band, split-pearl set bezels, pendant and bow, the back panel with dark blue translucent enamel over engine-turning (spiral pattern with ribbons of long and short waves, the short ones suggesting a basket-weave pattern), centered by a medallion with rosette gold paillons under clear translucent enamel with paillon ribbon borders. Spring-loaded back (with two springs) opened by a push-piece in the pendant. D. Off-white enamel with Roman numerals, the reverse with the painted number 9110, subsidiary seconds. Gold ?Pear? hands. M. 23???, ruby-cylinder escapement (the insert is sapphire) driven by a going barrel in a hinged, full-plate gilded movement with cylindrical pillars, brass four-arm balance, balance and steel escape wheel jeweled, both with ruby endstones, flat balance spring withregulator, gilded cock pierced and engraved with scrolled foliage. Gilded dust-cap, finely engraved with scrolled foliage.Signed on the back plate and numbered on the dial, case stamped with master mark I O.Diam. 62 mm.
