Alexander Cummings, London, No. 726, hallmarked 1767-68. Very fine and very rare 22K gold pair cased dumb half-quarter-repeating watch with à tact option.
C. Outer: two-body, engraved with floral pattern. Inner: two-body, ?bassine? with curved-in edge, polished. D. White enamel, Roman numerals, outer minute divisions. Gold ?spade? hands. M. 33 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full-plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, cylinder escapement with Cummings curved teeth of the escape wheel, brass balance with flat balance spring, single-footed cock, striking on steel block fixed to the case by depressing the pendant, gilt brass dust cup, lever for à tact option at 7 o?clock.Signed on the movement and dust cup.Diam. 50 mm.
