Three-body, the top with hinged lid for a small compartment finely painted with a flower bouquet within gold frame designed as the buckle within translucent Imperial blue enamel over ?sunburst? engine-turning, light green champlevé enamel border, reeded band with enameled top, base en suite. M. Gilt brass, shaped, sur plateau pinned disc with 38 tuned vibrating blades set on both sides in a fan-shaped arrangement, 4-arm governor, male winding key.Box punched with Geneva guarantee mark, goldsmith?s mark ?R? in oval between two dots.Dim. 67 x 54 x 15 mm.

This musical box of rare and unusual form also has a compartment for keeping the little velvet beauty spots used by women at the time. In the Guido Reuge collection there was a very similar box, without painting on enamel, signed ?P.C?. Another, also signed ?P.C?, was in the Imperial Russian collection and is illustrated in ?The Curious History of Music Boxes? by Roy Mosoriak, Chicago, 1943, p. 86.
