Notes

Minute-repeating watches from this period are very rare, and even more so when also fitted with an independent clock-watch train. The mechanism, comprising both the repeating works and the exposed clock-watch works, is very similar to that of the Courvoisier Frères, innovative and important mak- ers at the middle of the 19th century. The striking of Courvoisier clocks was typically Swiss, quite different from that of most French clocks. The present watch falls into the category of unusual and complicated euchâtel-type pieces with the typical Courvoisier count wheel.
