M.N., German, circa 1585. Very rare and important gilt metal pendant clockwatch, with hour-striking, single-hand three-train and concealed dial, alarm, stackfreed, circular foliot, and hog?s bristle regulator.
C. Double-body, tambour-like but with cushioned band and slightly domed covers, the front lid pierced with 12 openings for the hours, the center pierced and engraved with a rosette, the band and the back pierced, chased and engraved with inhabited foliage, short pendant, small finial and loose ring. D. Silver ring with champlevé Roman numerals, quarter-hour divisions, and twelve silver touch pieces, inner edge decorated with engraved twisted rope pattern, pin-hole at VIII for setting the striking, center with revolving gilt metal ring for the alarm with radial Arabic numerals, with ?Z? for the ?2?, whole on gilt brass dial plate hinged to the case. Iron ?fleur-de-lys? hand.M. 59.5 mm, gilt brass full plate with five turned baluster pillars, C-shaped stackfreed and fixed barrel, four-wheel iron train (contrate and escape later in brass), verge escapement, iron foliot, hog?s bristle mounted on a pivoted adjustable lever, small gilt C-shaped cock, striking train driven by a fixed barrel with five-wheel iron train, gilt brass engraved plate, iron count wheel on the back plate, alarm driven by a fixed barrel with three-wheel iron train, the bell mounted to the bottom of the case.Stamped ?MN? on the back plate.Diam. 74 mm.
