Girard Perregaux, Chaux-de-Fonds, Swiss, No. 14936, case No. 62204, made for the South American market, circa 1880. Very fine and rare 18K gold, hunting-cased, keyless lever pocket chronometer with free-sprung spherical balance spring and special balance. This movement design was the predecessor of famous three-bridge model.
C. Six-body, heavy, ?bassine et filets?, engine-turned with reeded band, engine-turned inside the covers. Gold cuvette engraved on the border with a floral decoration over glazed bezel for viewing the movement. D. Silver with applied gold floral decoration, radial Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds. Blued-steel ?fancy? hands.M. 45 mm (20??), nickel, Girard Perregaux caliber, gold wheel train, 20 jewels in screwed settings, straight line calibrated lever escapement, cut bimetallic two arm compensation balance with two gold sliding ogival weights for temperature adjustment, gold timing screws, diamond endstone, free-sprung blued-steel spherical balance spring.Signed on the dial, case and movement.Diam. 55 mm.
