White enamel, radial Romannumerals, outer minute divisions, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel ?spade? hands. M. 40 mm. (17''' 3/4), frostedgilt, half-plate, turned ringed pillars, fusee with chain, Earnshaw spring detent chronometer escapement, cutbimetallic compensation balance, blued steel free-sprung helical balance spring, jeweled to the 4th wheel, balancewith diamond endstone.Signed on dial and movement.Diam. 52 mm.

Notes

The Royal Archives at Windsor Castle have suggested that this watch was almost certainly given by Queen Victoria to a member of her family or senior staff. Frederick Dent was the stepson of Edward John Dent and completed the Westminster (Big Ben) clock for which Edward John had won the order. For a note on the Dent firm, see lot 96.
