Girard Perregaux, Chaux-de-Fonds, Swiss, circa 1870. Very fine and unusual silver and enamel crucifix watch in original fitted box.
C. Three body, massive, designed as a crucifix, the face with an enamel painted Virgin and Child, a cherub and a sheep, and angels' heads applied against a matted ground, the back with a black champleve Latin prayer. Hinged silver cuvette engraved with flowers and foliage. D. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer red Arabic minute ring. Blued steel "spade" hands. M. Gilt brass, cross shaped bar calibre, eight jewels, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring with regulator. Signed on the dial and cuvette. Dim. 68 x 43 mm.
