?Terpsichore? Swiss, No. 334, circa 1820. Very fine, 18K gold and enamel two-train quarter repeating, hour-striking musical watch.
C. Four-body, the back engraved with musical instruments surrounded by anengine-turned frame, fluted band, hinged, spring-loadedgilt brass hinged cuvette. D. Gold, white enamel cartouches with Breguetnumerals, outer blue enamel minute ring with white divisions,the centre painted on enamel with an allegory of Music and Love depicting aseated Terpsichore with a cherub at her side. Blued-steelBreguet hands. M. 52 mm, gilt brass full plate, cylinder escapement, goldthree-arm balance, flat balance spring, music by a pinnedrevolving disc with pinson both sides, playing on 24 tuned teeth arranged ina fan shape, music on demand by slide at 1 o'clock, therepeating work on the back plate, striking on two gongs by depressing thependant.Diam. 58 mm.The present watch was previously sold in the Lord Sandberg sale, April 1,2001, lot 311, and is published in the Lord Sandberg book,pages 190-191.
