Abraham Collomby, London (Geneva), No. 408, circa 1760. Very fine and large 20K gold pair-cased repoussé watch with date.

C. Outer: two-body, Louis XV, back finely repoussé, pronouncedhinge. Inner: two-body, ?bassine? with deep back. D. Gold,Roman numerals, arcaded minute divisions, five-minute Arabicmarkers on polished cartouches, center with filigree decorationover polished steel giving a mirror effect, date aperture at 6o?clock. Blued steel ?Louis XV? hands. M. 42 mm (19???), frostedgilt full-plate with pierced pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapementbrass balance with flat balance spring, Dutch-type cockwith ruby endstone. Movement signed, inner case punched?MT? surmounted by a crown.Diam. 58 mm.

Notes

Abraham Collomby Maître horloger 1745-1760, and subsequently Collomby & Cie, which firm remained active until the early 19th century. Collomby made fine quality watches, pair-cased watches, and watches decorated with pearls, precious stones and enamel, and exported to Italy, Spain, England, and their colonies. The present lot was sold on April 2004 by Antiquorum Geneva lot 594.
