Notes

Watches decorated with the Imperial Eagle, were usually bought by the Tsars to be presented to servants, soldiers, visitors or i mportaut personalities, in recognition of loyalty to the Empire. Therefore a wide range of watches by Paul Buhre, from inexpensive silver case plain watches, to pocket chronometers, were bought for this purpose. Gold hunting- cased minute repeating watches were among the most expensive. An identical watch, No. 4155, was sold in New York by Antiquorurn on December 7, 1988, lot 177 and another one was sold in Antignorum's 20th anniversary auction in Geneva on October 16, 1994, lot No.132.
