J. Ullmann & Co., Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tientsin, Swiss, circa 1900, the enamelled decoration painted by Raiss in Geneva. Fine 18K gold and enamel, hunting cased, pearl-set, keyless minute repeating watch with chronograph.

C. Four body, " bassine et filets" with split pearl set bezels, the band with a blue champleve enamelled decoration, the back panel of blue flinque enamel, painted with a portrait of a maiden, the necklace inlaid with rose cut diamonds, the blue flinque enamel cover panel painted with a romantic scene, depicting a young gentleman playing the serenade to a seated lady. Hinged gold cuvette decorated with medals awarded to the painter at different exhibitions. D. White enamel with Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute and chronograph rings, sunk subsidiary seconds. Gilt brass paste-set hands. M. Glazed 19-, nickel plated, "fausses cotes" decoration, 28 jewels, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, Breguet balance spring. Repeating on gongs with slide in the band. Chronograph with visible work and push-piece in the band. Signed on the dial and cuvette. Diam. 53 mm.

Thanks to the inscription: iVlerlailles decernees an rlecorateur Raiss, Geneve, engraved on the cuvette of this watch, it is finally possible to identify the artist who made the decoration of most of the watches of this type, produced in Switzerland for the Chinese Market. J. Ullmann & Co., La Chaux-de-Fonds, Fleurier, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tientsin and Vladivostok. The company registered in 1896 trade marks for watches in gold, silver and metal cases, cuvettes, movements, dials, and watch boxes. The company was listed in 1920-1923 at La Chauxde- Fonds. It was also listed in Fleurier in 1923. "Trade mark" under a figure of a female warrior (Britannia?), a lion on her back.
