Jacques Girod, (Coppet near Geneva), circa 1680. Fine gilt brass pair cased early balance spring watch with alarm.
C. Double body outer, covered with a later dark blue leather. Inner bassine, the band pierced and engraved with foliage. D. Gilt brass champleve with Roman numerals over a matted ground, inner Arabic alarm setting disc decorated with a chased rosette. Single blued steel "arrow hand". M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with urn-shaped pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel tree-arm balance, short early balance spring, gilt brass balance cock with single foot, pierced and engraved in three separated openwork sectors allowing the balance spring to be seen. Diam. 54 mm.
