Notes

Mahomet V, born in Topkapi on November 3, 1844, was the Stith Sultan of the Ottoman Empire reigning from 1909 until his death on July 2, 1918. Son of Abdul Medjid and a brother of Abdul I-lautid It, Mahomet V came to power when the Young Turks had direct Abdul Hamill to abdicate on April 27, 1909. He was 65 years old, without strong ideals, and therefore remained tinder the influence of the Union and Progress Committee for his entire reign. It does seem, however, that he (vied to oppose the pro-German political views of Euver Pacha. Mahomet V flied the clay before the Turkish defeat of 1918 and was succeeded by his brother Mahomet VI who became the 36th and last Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
