H.G., German, circa 1600. Very rare hour striking table clock with alarm in the form of a monstrance.
C. Double body, gilt bronze, designed as a monstrance, the base with chased decoration in a Renaissance pattern, the three feet in the form of horse heads, gilt-bronze bezel with chased decoration, the back with cast and chased openwork inhabited foliage in a Renaissance pattern, classical urn at the top. D. Later custom made silver chapter ring with Roman numerals and "fleurs de lys" halfhour divisions, the original central silver alarm setting disc with Arabic numerals and champlcve decoration of flower and birds. Later steel single hand. M. Hinged gilt-brass full plate with square pillars, the going train gilt-brass fixed barrels with revolving arbor and engraved with foliage decoration, stackfree regulator (lacking) verge escapement, later balance and later cock. Striking and alarm trains both with gilt-brass fixed barrels with revolving arbors and engraved with foliage decoration, count wheel sunk in the back plate, striking on a bell. Signed by the punched mark "H.G." on the back plated, associated with crossed spades. Dim. 23 x 12 cm.
