Lorens Grassl, Augsburg, second half of the 18th century. Fine small gilt-brass universal equinoctial compass dial, in original leather covered fitted and box and accompanied by the original instructions.

Brass octagonal, with latitude arc and hour ring with folding gnomon, the horizontal plate engraved with foliage decoration, the compass box engraved with latitudes of three continental cities. Signed on the compass box and on the instruction written in German, French and Spanish, with on the reverse a table of latitudes for 160 cities. Dim. 48 x 51 mm.
