C. Double body, Louis XV, engine-turned in a basket work pattern. D. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minutes ring. Gold Louis XV hands. M. Hinged gilt-brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel threearm balance, flat balance spring, gilt-brass cock with polished-steel end-piece. Striking and repeating train with fixed barrel and revolving arbor, striking on a bell, the striking train released for repetition by depressing the pendant. Signed on the dial and back plate. Diam. 47 nun.

Notes

Clock watches were much appreciated before the invention of the repeating train by Daniel Quart . circa 1690. Very few were produced after 1730 until they came again in favour in the Middle East towards the end of the 18th and the early 19th centuries, mainly produced in England for the Turkish Market. At the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries, they were again much appreciated in Spain, South America and above all in India. I lowever extremely few were produced in Frtmce during the 18th century.
