John Styles, London, No. 1372, made for the Chinese Market circa 1780. Fine gilt bronze and enamel, paste set pair cased, hour striking and repeating extra large clock watch.
C. Outer double body, Louis XVI, the bezels pierced and engraved with foliage and set with alternate red and white pastes, the back centred with a large enamel panel painted with a lady. Inner bassine, the band pierced and engraved with foliage, the back with a floral decoration. D. White enamel with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds. Blued steel Breguet hands. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with conical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring. Gilt brass English cock with diamond end-stone. Striking and repeating train with fixed barrel with revolving arbor, striking on a bell with button on the pendant. Gilt brass dust cap. Signed on the back plate and dust cap. Diam. 108 mm.
