Notes

Including this example, only three pocket chronometers with tourhillon regulator, made with this highly unusual calibre are known to exist. All produced by Guinand for the American or the South American Market, their movements were specially finished according to the test of the market for which they were produced. No. 3321, sold by Antiquorum in Hong Kong, on 18 June 1994, made for the South American Market, was finished with an engraved gilt brass movement and fitted with a lever escapement. Another, made for the American Market circa 1870 and sold by Antiquorum in April 1995, lot No. 169, was made for the American Market, with a nickel plated movement with pivoted detent escapement. Certainly produced for the South American Market, the example now offered for sale, finished with a nickel plated movement with pivoted detent escapement, appears to be the latest of this type, ever made by Guinand. Guinand, produced three models of Tourbillon carriage. He worked for several important makers including Girard Perregaux and Mmnandon.
