(L'Epee, Sainte Suzanne), France, Brevete S.G.D.G., No. 894, circa 1900. Fine gilt metal keyless musical watch with alarm and visible balance.

C. Three body, "bassine et filets " , polished. Hinged gilt metal cuvette. D. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer minute ring, the centre with a small floral decoration, semi circular balance aperture above chapter "VI". Gilt brass "Louis XV" hands. M. 22"', inverted nickel plated, cylinder escapement, plain three-arm balance, flat balance spring with regulator. Musical train with, fly regulator, 30 mm. pin cylinder and 24 tooth comb, released at will or by the alarm hand adjusted by means of the revolving milled bezel. In good condition. Diam. 66 mm.

Notes

Although this lot is not signed, this type of watches is known to have be produced by L' Epee in Sainte Suzanne, in the French Franche Comte. A very similar watch in gun metal case is illustrated by Didier Brodbeck in Horlogerie made in France, published by Editions Challenge in 1996, for the Syndicat Francais des Fabricants de Montres, page 10.
