C. Square moulded base with hinged glass top. M. Gilt brass three-quarter plate, engraved with the dedication: Creation James C. Pellaton, Dr h. c., Le Lode, Swiss, No. J. C.P/3, Pour son anti Ernest Liniger 1949. Fusee with chain and maintaining power, constant force escapement with the gold escape wheel mounted on the balance staff beneath the helical balance spring with terminal curve, lateral lever on the side with jewelled pallets; the Guillaume integral compensation balance revolves in eight seconds with the escape wheel, the impulse being given by traction on the balance spring. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Dim. 18,5 x 18,5 x 12,5 cm.

Part of an important article on the tourbillon regulator, the Benoit' s constant-force escapement was described by James Pellaton himself in 1950 in Annales I aneaises de Chrononutrie, pp. 350-353; photocopies supplied. Ernest Liniger Very able maker was the first precision timer in the workshop of Jaeger LeCoultrc before being the owner of Grotendieck in Brussels towards 1915-1946. I-Ie was a friend of James Pellaton who also made hin, one of his top class pocket chronometer with one minute tourbillon regulator, with matching mahogany box with gimbal suspension.
