Dd. Gide (Geneva), No. 2957, circa 1810. Fine and unusual 18K and enamel pendant watch, designed as a dolphin.

C. Double body, entirely decorated with blue champleve enamelled motif simulating fish scales (slightly restored). D. White enamel with Breguet numerals. Gold "spade" hands. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass continental cock with star shaped polished steel end-piece. Signed on the dial and back plate. hi very good condition. Dim. 49 x 28 mm.

Notes

It is interesting to point out that pendant watches in the form of animals, flowers and various other objects were al r eady produced in Geneva in the 17th century and that the same themes are often used again in the 19th century. For example, another pendant watch in this sale also designed as a dolphin was produced by Jean-Baptiste Duhoule (lot No. 584) as early as the first half of the 17th century.
