Unsigned, Swiss, circa 1820. Fine and unusual 18K gold quarter repeating automaton watch.

C. Four body, Empire with engine-turned back, reeded band and bezels. Hinged gilt brass cuvette. D. White enamel chapter ring with Breguet numerals Blued steel Breguet hands. Glazed three-colour gold chased automaton scene applied on a blued steel ground and driven by the repeating train, depicting a balcony supported by two columns. A Punchinello suddenly appears on the balcony to strike the hours on a bell whilst two Cherub Jacks, strike the quarters at the lower stage. Blued steel "scotties" hands. M. Gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece. Repeating on gongs by depressing the pendant. In very good condition. Diam. 56 mm.
