Dent, Watchmaker to the Queen, 61 Strand & 34 Royal Exchange, London, No. 33581, with London hallmarks for 1867. Fine 18K gold, hunting cased, minute repeating keyless watch.

Double body, massive, "bassine et filets", engineturned with reeded band, by Alexis Nicole (Master Mark), the cover engraved with the coat-of- arm of the Van Studiford family, with inside a dedication to Charles Von Stv.di/ord, Saint Louis, Missouri, dated 1668, the back applied with his monogram. D. White enamel with Roman numerals and offset sunk subsidiary seconds. Blued steel "spade" hands " . M. 19"' frosted and gilt, three-quarter plate, 15 jewels for the going train, English pointed tooth lateral lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance with ruby endstone, blued steel balance spring with terminal curve. Repeating on gongs with slide in the band. Signed on the dial and back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 53 mm.

According to the hallmarks for 1867, this watch must have been finished by the step-son Richard Rippon Jr., who changed his name to Richard Edward Dent in 1850.
