Josiah Joly a Paris, circa 1645. Very fine and rare gilt-metal, silver and rock crystal oval pre-balance spring watch.

C. Gilt brass two piece frame. Hinged faceted rock crystal cover and back, silver band finely engraved with reclining figures of Adam and Eve in inhabited foliage, loose-ring pendant and button finial. D. Giltbrass dial plate engraved with cherubs, foliage and and winged angel's head. Applied silver Roman chapter ring, the centre engraved with flowers and foliage. Single balluster-turned blued-steel hand. M. Shaped gilt-brass full plate with turned urn pillars, fusee with a later chain, three wheel train, verge escapement, two-arm steel balance without spring, irregular oval foliage pierced and engraved cock secured by a pin, with blued steel click for the ratchet wheel set-up. Signed on the back plate. hn very good condition. Dim. 54 x 30 mm. (excluding ring)
