Francois Baroneau a Paris, circa 1640. Very fine and rare silver pre-balance spring watch with alarm.

C. Double body, bassine with loose-ring pendant, the band finely pierced and engraved with Summer flowers. D. Gilt brass chapter ring with Roman numerals, inner silver alarm setting disc. Gilt brass turn baluster single hand. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with urn pillars, short train, fusee with gut-line, verge escapement, two-arm balance without spring, irregular oval foliage pierced and engraved cock secured by a screw, with matching click for the ratchet wheel set-up. Alarm striking on a bell, the gilt brass fixed barrel pierced and engraved with foliage. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 68 mm.

Francois Baroneau (1620-1649) He married Louise Charpentier and used to work in Paris rue Saint Jacques de la Boucheric, at the end of Le Pont an Change. He was the Father of the famous Louis Baroneau, watchmaker to the the King and the Queen.
