Unsigned, (Courvoisier & Jonais, Chaux-de-Fonds), No. 20340, circa 1875. Fine 18K gold hunting cased, double face calendar keyless watch, Patented on 27 June 1871.

C. Five body, massive, " bassine et filets " , engineturned, cover and back engine-turned inside in an Islamic pattern. D. White enamel on the front with Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute ring and sunk subsidiary seconds. Blued steel "spade" hands. White enamel on the rear face, the dates on the border with subsidiary dials for the months and the days of the week. M. 18"' nickel plated, 17 jewels, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, Breguet balance spring. Nickel plated calendar work driven by the movement. Courvoisier coat-of-arms punched on the movement. In very good condition. Diam. 54 mm.

Notes

A similar watch, fully signed and also punched with the Courvoisier coat-of-arms was sold by Antiquorum, Geneva, April 1996, lot 491. The calendar mechanism and the way to open either the front or the back covers by folding the bow front or back, were patented in England by A.C. Jonais on January 15th, 1870.
