Notes

Watches with blue sapphire jewel bearings are very rare, the most celebrated being the famous "Howard Blue Sapphire", reputed to be one of the best quality watch ever made in the U.S.A. and produced at 300 examples only. According to the inscription engraved on the cuvette and the the mark of the U.S. Navy, this watch was certainly presented by the U.S. Navy to D.C. Sloan in 1921 an act of baravery or in recognition of loyalty.
